Teachers and Organizers

Alvaro San Millan

Alvaro obtained his DVM and PhD in microbiology in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. In 2012 he moved to the University of Oxford to study the evolution of plasmid-mediated antibiotic resistance, and in 2016 Alvaro returned to Spain to start his own research group, the Plasmid Biology and Evolution lab (www.pbelab.es). Alvaro is interested in the evolutionary forces that drive plasmid dynamics in bacterial populations, with a special focus on the evolution of plasmid-mediated antibiotic resistance.

Shai Pilosof

Shai is an ecologist interested in the complexity of ecological systems, especially in the context of disease and community ecology, epidemiology and population genetics. His research spans a variety of study systems including bacteria and viruses, malaria, and small mammals and their parasites. See details in our lab website.

Itzik Mizrahi

Itzik Mizrahi’s group is interested in understanding the fundamental forces driving the function and assembly of microbial communities in gut environments as well as their cross interaction with their host. To this end, they use culture-based and non-culture-based techniques.
