Isam Khalaila was born in Sakhneen and studied in the high school in the same city. He graduated from the Ben Gurion university and in 2001 he obtained his Ph.D. from the same university on cell physiology and reproduction of invertebrates. His postdoctoral training he did ( 2001-2003) in the biomedical institute in Muenster, Germany on mass spectrometry, proteomics and glycoproteins. After that (2003-2005) he moved to the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. There in the EPFL he worked on drug-protein interactions. Since 2005 he became a faculty member in the department of Biotechnology Engineering in Ben-Gurion University.
